The 2nd FPA PROFESSIONAL FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS Winners Exhibition, held from Thursday, May 29 to Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Shibuya Hikarie 8/CUBE 1, 2, 3, concluded with great success, following in the footsteps of the previous exhibition.

As with the previous exhibition, we welcomed nearly 1,000 visitors, making it a meaningful occasion that reaffirmed how the genre of food photography is steadily reaching a broader audience.

Visual Expressions of "Food" That Cross Borders
This year’s awards received an overwhelming number of submissions—nearly three times more than the previous edition—from both Japan and abroad. A diverse group of food photographers, each from different regions and cultures, submitted their works, capturing the essence of their local customs, atmosphere, and perspectives on food in a single frame.
The winning photographs, carefully selected from among them, were exhibited together in the heart of Tokyo’s Shibuya district. Though still images, they created the sensation of traveling across global dining tables—inviting visitors on a visual journey through the world’s culinary cultures.
A particularly noteworthy aspect of this year’s exhibition was the presence of international award winners who traveled to Japan to attend in person. Their visits sparked meaningful cross-cultural exchanges at the venue, and seeing the artists speak about their own work in front of their photographs underscored the powerful, universal language of photography that transcends words.

Following last year’s format, the exhibition also featured five invited works by Julianne Medeiros, one of the judges for the FPA PROFESSIONAL FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2025. Her photographs, marked by serene beauty and striking expressive power, captivated visitors and left a profound impression—offering both inspiration and artistic stimulation to fellow food photographers.

This exhibition could not have taken place without the generous support of many individuals—our exhibitors, official FPA members, fellow food photographers, and all those involved behind the scenes. From transporting and setting up the works to managing reception, guiding visitors, and supporting daily operations throughout the exhibition, so many people willingly stepped forward to lend their time and energy. The entire event was upheld by the sincere cooperation and goodwill of everyone involved. One act of support led naturally to another, creating a chain of mutual assistance that became the solid foundation upon which this exhibition was built.

We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to the judges of this year’s awards, who approached the selection process with exceptional sincerity, engaging in repeated thoughtful discussions and careful reconsideration. Their discerning eye and deep respect for the context and creativity behind each work played a crucial role in identifying the essence and potential of the winning entries. It is their aesthetic judgment that greatly elevated the overall standard of this exhibition.
Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the team at Shibuya Hikarie 8/CUBE, who once again provided outstanding support as our venue partner. From setup to day-to-day operations, the staff responded with kindness and flexibility at every stage. We are truly grateful for their warm collaboration and the thoughtful adjustments they made to help us bring our vision to life.

We sincerely apologize for any shortcomings in communication regarding this exhibition, which was held just six months after the previous one—a relatively short preparation period that may have limited our ability to reach all interested parties in a timely manner.
Information regarding the next exhibition will be announced promptly on our official website and social media channels as soon as details are finalized. We are committed to making even greater efforts in preparation and outreach to welcome an even wider audience.
To all who visited the exhibition and to everyone who supported and contributed in various ways, we offer our heartfelt gratitude. This event once again reaffirmed the power of food photography—not only to capture the beauty of food, but also to serve as a medium that connects people across cultures and communities.
FPA will continue to stand at the forefront of visual expression through “food,” fostering global dialogue and creative exchange with all of you.
We are also pleased to announce that submissions for the 3rd FPA PROFESSIONAL FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS 2025 will officially open on September 1. Further details will be shared on our official website and via our email newsletter. If you haven't yet subscribed, we warmly encourage you to do so.
We sincerely look forward to receiving your submissions.
